Depression

Next to anxiety, depression is one of the most common mental health symptoms that people experience. We all have a bad day from time to time. Depression can feel like a “bad day” that happens again, and again.

There are a number of reasons why people experience depression. These reasons are often broken down into two categories: reactionary, or endogenous. A reactionary depression can be the result of a negative event we have experienced, or something traumatic. This means that we may not be someone who naturally experiences depression, but because of the bad thing that happened, we have a prolonged period of trying to cope. Endogenous depression means, “A depression that comes from within”. Endogenous depression may seem more difficult to manage.

At Divergent Counselling, we believe that recovery from depression is possible. This begins with helping people to foster a sense of hope, and ultimately helping them develop a plan forward based on their goals.

As we are psychiatric nursing professionals, we are in a position to provide education and information on the use of medication as it relates to depression, which you can further discuss with your physician.
